Updated: Dec 14, 2024

Silence on New Year’s Eve may sound like a contradiction. It is. But as 2024 ends in a war-torn world, that is just what a large and diverse group of faithful people plan to do again this year.

Everyone is invited to join people of different faiths and many who claim no affiliation with organized religion for an evening of quiet, meditation, and walking the labyrinth. It will be the 21st Annual Interfaith Vigil for Peace, sponsored by Sangha Shantivanam and hosted by Holy Cross Church.

Beginning at 7:30 pm in the parish hall at Holy Cross, there will be several brief periods of meditation interspersed with prayers from universal wisdom traditions. You are welcome to join us for any time during the evening. Admission is free, and donations will benefit Siena House and Birth Network, local organizations that support mothers and babies.

We are pleased to have presenters Sushila Tyler (Hinduism), Shira Belford, (Jewish Renewal of Santa Cruz), the Reverend Mother Erika Essiem (The Episcopal Church of St. John, Aptos), Penelope Burton (Mindful Movement), Tenzin Chogkyi (Buddhism), Ann Miller (Bahai Faith), and a representative from Islam. As in previous years, we will meditate for a few minutes between presentations and end with St. Francis Prayer for Peace and Auld Lang Syne, led by a community member.

Reverend Beth Love, from Eat for the Earth, has graciously agreed to provide the refreshment offering.

The schedule is available on the Event page: https://www.sanghashanti.org/news-and-events

The full program pdf will be available at the Event, but you can also access a copy here when it becomes available right before the event.
